Events can be face-face but more and more organizations are exploring virtual events using technology like Second Life.

Event News #1 New York's Top 100 Events 2013

The list of the meetings, parties, and industry gatherings that make the most impact in New York year after year.
By Brendan Spiegel | Posted May 8, 2013, 7:30 AM EDT
As New York's event landscape grows increasingly diverse, the list of the city's top 100 gatherings becomes harder to define. The local technology sector—the so-called Silicon Alley—is booming, thanks in part to the support of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and alongside the rise in prominence of these companies are a number of buzzy events worth noting. (The influx prompted us to add a category just for the top tech industry events.)

Other industries are seeing change, too, with Upfront Week expanding to include more and more TV networks, the return of the N.B.A. Draft and the Fancy Food Show, and the growth in popularity of events like the Affordable Art Fair and the Five Boro Bike Tour. From established affairs like the Time 100 gala to rapidly growing newcomers like the Governors Ball Music Festival, here are our picks for the events that annually draw the biggest buzz, crowds, media and donor attention, and important players in their respective fields.

To choose and rank the annual events on this list, we look at several factors, including economic impact, buzz, innovation, and an event's prominence within the communities it intends to serve.
